Measurement of Light Intensity and Reflexion of Light

White surfaces reflect light differently than dark surfaces. We can measure this with a simple experiment. For this we use a light meter. Actually, all smartphones also have a light meter. However, this can only be read on Android smartphones (e.g. with the free PhyPhox app).

Material:

  • Light Meter
  • Black Paper
  • White Paper
  • Sunlight or Infrared Lamp
  • Turn on the light meter and remove the cover from the sensor.
    The sensor is under the white plastic dome.
  • To take a measurement, rotate the white dome toward the surface. Wait a moment and then press the “Hold” button.
  • Now you can turn the device over again and read the value.
  • For a new measurement, press the “Hold” button again to release the lock.
