Colored stones and the cause of the color

Xperiment

Material:

  • Rust-brown stone suspected to contain iron
  • Iron test strips
  • 10% hydrochloric acid
  • Place a drop of hydrochloric acid on the brown-colored stone and wait for one minute.
  • Take an iron test strip and place the test side on the stone.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then compare the color with the color scale provided by the test.
